Travel Information

*TRAVEL NOTE: Coronavirus Travel Update:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL TRAVELING INTO COSTA RICA: please read through this entire link to see what your requirements are to enter Costa Rica at this time.  Please read through our COVID19 protocals tab on this website.  We strongly encourage travel insurance

HERE is a great article about safety traveling during these times

Transportation to Costa Rica:  Some airlines that offer flights from major US cities into Costa Rica:

TACA www.taca.com 1.800.400.TACA
United www.united.com 1.800.622.1015
American Airlines www.aa.com 1.800.433.7300
Delta www.delta.com 1.800.241.4141

Air travel within Costa Rica - From San Jose to Nosara:

SANSA Airlines www.flysansa.com 011.506.221.9414
Nature Air www.natureair.com 1.800.235.9272

Travel Documents: Citizen of the US, Canada, and Panama may enter Costa Rica with a passport that remains valid at least 6 months after your travel date. Identification such as a driver's license or birth certificate are no longer valid for travel in Costa Rica.  A valid passport allows Canadian, American, as well as most Latin American and European citizens to stay for up to 90 days.  Citizens of other countries may require a visa to enter Costa Rica. Before you go to Costa Rica, please make a copy of your passport, which you will need to carry with you at all times. You should leave your original passport in the safety box at Blue Spirit.  All required travel documents and any immunizations are your responsibility.

FLYING IN & OUT OF COSTA RICA:  Blue Spirit is situated in Nosara, on the Northern Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. Depending on your chosen arrival airport in Costa Rica, there are different options to travel onwards to Blue Spirit.  There are two international airports in Costa Rica: Liberia International Airport (LIR) and San Jose International Airport (SJO). Both airports have frequent flights from all over the United States and Canada.  The closest airport to Blue Spirit is LIBERIA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (LIR). It is only a 2 hours scenic drive from Blue Spirit. Blue Spirit runs group shuttles on Saturdays from / to Liberia Airport.

SAN JOSE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT is an alternative option as sometimes flights from the US or Canada to SAN JOSE can be cheaper or more direct. However, getting to Blue Spirit by road is more costly and takes 4 1/2 hours. An alternative is taking a short plane flight from San Jose to the domestic AIRPORT in NOSARA (the local airport is only 15 minutes from Blue Spirit).

DEPARTURE TAX: There is a departure tax to be paid of $26 at San Jose or Liberia airport when you leave Costa Rica. It can be paid in cash (US$ or costa rican Colones) or with credit card.

Traveling With Surfboards:  Be certain that your airline will accept your surfboard at the time of your travel. Certain U.S. Carriers, principally, but not limited to United & Continental, have time periods that they will not carry surfboards and are very poor about notifying you of this during the reservation booking process. We have found that consistently the most surfer friendly airline to Costa Rica is, GRUPO TACA, the airline of Central America. You will also not be able to carry surfboards on the local commuter flights and many buses.

Ground Transportation:  You are responsible for coordinating and payment of your ground travel to/from the Blue Spirit Retreat Center. If you choose to pre-arrange your ground transfer to/from the resort with the Blue Spirit, please submit the Blue Spirit’s Shuttle form per instructions HERE Please note that group shuttles are Saturdays only, during select times. Blue Spirit has times listed as well as other options on their shuttle form above.  Please see the tabs above for more information about your time in Costa Rica and your stay at Blue Spirit.  Travel insurance is required for your journey. There are many travel insurance companies, we recommend STA Travel (www.statravel.com) and AAA (www.aaa.com) for affordable worldwide travel insurance as well as SQUAREMOUTH
