Mari is a kind, devoted and passionate student-teacher of the flow who feels her purpose as a teacher is to help bring this transformational practice of yoga into each student’s lives.
She started practicing yoga in the early 90s at Integral Yoga Center in NYC while she was attending New York University. It was a profound experience that set her on course to become a yoga teacher and share this passion of yoga with others. She traveled to an ashram in Kerala, India in 2005 where she went through her first yoga teacher training where she received her spiritual name OMkari meaning the sacred sound syllable OM from a swami.
Her first class with Shiva Rea was in 2005 at Sacred Movement where she felt completely at peace and at home. She completed Prana Flow® certification program in 2011 and continues to travel to LA to study with Shiva.
Her training has taught her a more in depth way to find the organic balance of playfulness and discipline while focusing on quieting the mind. Her classes are well rounded and welcoming, delivering a good balance of strength and softness, intelligent sequencing served with mindful playfulness.
Mari has been blessed with truly amazing teachers and is honored to share what has inspired her path towards freedom. She opened Yoga Spot in Yokohama, Japan in 2006 to share her experience of this timeless practice with the yoga community in Japan. She teaches at Yoga Spot a renowned yoga center in the heart of Yokohama city which hosts wide range of yoga teacher training programs, workshops, lectures, kirtan & chanting, concerts and performances by internationally renowned spiritual teachers and artists.
