Andrew McAuley

Location: Ashburn, VA Level: E-RYT 500

The lush scenery of the Pacific Northwest was the backdrop for Andrew McAuley’s early years. At the foreground was his mother, who set an example of reverent pursuit of spiritual enlightenment beyond the fundamental into the mystical. Andrew learned from their humble lifestyle to appreciate a connection with the surrounding world through activities such as camping, gardening, and fishing. Moving frequently throughout his childhood, provided Andrew with the opportunity to learn the meaning of home and acknowledge that where there is love, there is a solid foundation upon which a tribe can be established.

Andrew graduated high school early and explored performance art in Portland through various mediums. He acquired both a skill set and affection for dance, music, spoken word and celebrated how each evoked an expressive flow. At 17, Andrew obtained his first copy of The Bhagavad Gita. From that moment on, he dedicated himself to identifying as a life-long student of world culture, philosophy, and mysticism. By his mid-twenties, Andrew was living on the island of Lauttasaari, outside of Helsinki, Finland, where he studied Sociology and Social Work at Helsingin Yliopisto (University of Helsinki). As Andrew’s quest for knowledge and personal evolution continued, it became clear that the ancient teachings of Yoga, coupled with the insight of social autonomy could be used to forge an innovative approach to living. Having made a full commitment to his yoga practice, Andrew aligned himself with Shiva Rea as his teacher and inspiration, where he advanced to the level of Teacher Trainer and mentor of Prana Flow®: Energetic Vinyasa for Samudra: Global School of Living Yoga.

As Andrew’s career progressed, he acquired training in a vast array of alternative healing modalities, which contribute to his holistic approach to health and well-being. Andrew created a six week comprehensive course detailing Anatomy, Physiology, Kinesiology, Histology, Pathology, and Bodywork Practicum and Technique for Heritage Massage Therapy Institute in Falls Church, VA. He has also created trainings, manuals and materials covering Yogic Anatomy for both 200 and 300 hour Prana Flow® affiliate programs offered at Ananda Shala and throughout the country created by Maria Garre, as inspired and approved by Shiva Rea. Additionally, Andrew is now a Master Level Instructor for EFTI (Equinox Fitness Training Institute) where he is certified to train Personal Trainers and mentor Master Instructors in courses covering Anatomy, Physiology, Kinesiology, and Cardiovascular Training. Most recently, Andrew has been approved to offer Samurdra’s 200 hour Prana Flow® affiliate Teacher Training including Shiva Rea's foundational modules: Embodying the Flow™, Pathways of Flow™, Anatomy of Flow™, Mandala of Asanas™: Essential Tools for Teaching Flow. He continues to be a frequent co-collaborator and guest teacher within Prana Flow® affiliate Teacher Trainings worldwide.

Andrew’s calling is to teach by offering an alchemical mixture of his life experience and study. When asked to describe his teaching philosophy he stated, “We are supporting the evolutionary shift from dissonance to resonance, from gray-scale to vibrancy. What I enjoy most is witnessing how each student, through their willingness and enthusiasm to explore yoga, recaptures their connection to all things.” Andrew’s gentle demeanor and compassionate spirit allow him to support students of any level to embrace this evolutionary shift. As a Shakti Dasi, Servant of the Flow, Andrew’s personal awakening continues to expand as he travels the globe offering teacher trainings, workshops, retreats and master classes. Presently, Andrew’s intensive studies in Yoga, Tantra and Ayurveda are under the guidance and wisdom of his teachers Shiva Rea, Christopher Tompkins, and Maria Garre.
